Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

You don't need a referral to book directly. However, a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP lets you claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per year. It's worth getting one before your first appointment if you'd like to access rebates.

How much will I pay after a Medicare rebate?

The current Medicare rebate for a registered psychologist is $98.95 per session. With a standard session fee of $215, your out-of-pocket cost would be approximately $116 per session. Rebates apply for up to 10 sessions per calendar year with a valid Mental Health Care Plan.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. Online sessions via Telehealth are available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for clients across Melbourne and throughout Australia.

Do you accept WorkCover and TAC clients?

Yes. Vine Psychology is an approved WorkCover and TAC provider. Sessions are billed directly to your insurer — no out-of-pocket cost to you. Please have your claim number ready when booking.

Do you work with couples?

Yes. Couples therapy is available using the Gottman Method — one of the most research-backed approaches to relationship therapy, focused on communication, connection, and conflict resolution.

Where is Vine Psychology located?

The practice is based at 13 Sunbury Crescent, Surrey Hills VIC 3127. Clients come from Mont Albert, Balwyn, Box Hill, Camberwell, Canterbury, Doncaster, Blackburn, and surrounding eastern Melbourne suburbs. Online sessions are available anywhere in Australia.

Do you accept NDIS clients?

Yes. Vine Psychology is a registered NDIS provider. If psychology is included in your plan under Improved Daily Living, sessions are billed directly to your plan — no out-of-pocket cost.

How do I get started?

What is your cancellation policy?

At least 24 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or non-attendance may incur a fee. If something unexpected comes up, please get in touch as soon as possible.

Medicare Rebates

With a Mental Health Care Plan

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you're eligible for Medicare rebates on up to 10 psychology sessions per year. After claiming, your out-of-pocket cost per session is significantly reduced.

To get a plan: book an extended appointment with your GP and ask for a Mental Health Care Plan referral.

NDIS

Registered Provider

Vine Psychology is a registered NDIS provider. If psychology is funded under your NDIS plan (typically under Improved Daily Living), sessions are billed directly to your plan manager or the NDIA. No payment required from you.

WorkCover

Approved Provider — No Out-of-Pocket Cost

Vine Psychology is an approved WorkCover provider for workplace psychological injuries. Sessions are billed directly to your insurer. You'll need a current claim number and authorisation from your case manager before your first session.

TAC — Transport Accident Commission

Approved Provider — No Out-of-Pocket Cost

If you've been involved in a transport accident and psychology support is approved by the TAC, sessions are billed directly to the Commission. Please bring your claim details to your first session.

Private Health Insurance

Most Funds Accepted

Many private health insurance policies include psychology rebates under extras cover. The amount varies between funds and policies. Check with your insurer directly for your entitlements. Claiming is straightforward after your session.

VOCAT — Victims of Crime

Provider

Vine Psychology also works with VOCAT clients. If you're eligible for victims of crime assistance, psychology sessions may be covered. Please get in touch to discuss your situation before booking.

Common fee questions

The current Medicare rebate for a registered psychologist is $101.55 per session. With a standard session fee of $230, your out-of-pocket cost would be approximately $128 per session. Rebates apply for up to 10 sessions per calendar year with a valid Mental Health Care Plan.
You can book directly without a referral. However, to access Medicare rebates, you'll need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. You can still see a psychologist without one. You just won't be able to claim the rebate.
